Where do many queer/SSA people experience an uncomfortable gender incongruence with their culture, and where do some experience a deeper gender dysphoria? Tom and Erin welcome YOF board member Jesse to share their experience as a gender minority in Your Other Brothers. We answer honest questions from our YOB+YOS members as we start a long overdue conversation with curiosity and empathy for gender minorities who are nonbinary, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, and transgender.

Tom and Erin welcome Dr. Mark Yarhouse and Dr. Julia Sadusky, co-authors of Emerging Sexual Identities. We dive into sexual identity language and the reality that Gen Z is identifying in more diverse, specific ways than any previous generation. Mark and Julia explain the concept of residual, dominant, and emergent taxonomies for sexual identity language. We also learn about the coining of the term “heterosexual,” the nonjudgmental merits of queer theory, and how people are holding faith and sexuality together and separately. How do we as a community integrate the two in a healthy way?

It’s the start of a new fiscal year for our ministry, including a new board-approved budget that brings some modifications to the YOF content landscape and work duties for Tom and Erin. After a couple years of discussions, spreadsheets, form submissions, and more legal fees than you could imagine, Your Other Family is now a government-recognized nonprofit organization! The IRS approved our nonprofit, and all membership dues and donations to our ministry are officially tax-deductible, including all amounts given retroactively on our new giving platform. We still have a journey yet ahead of us to close our remaining funding gaps, but this is a huge step forward.

Tom recounts our recently held YOB retreat, which focused on God’s call for Abram to “go” – and so, we too are going. Will you pray with us for God's provision, also taking action wherever He prompts?

Tom here, and it's my monthly "State of the Sparrow" for Your Other Family! It feels good to say I am now executive director of this new ministry. This month we finally made the switch away from Patreon to our new ministry giving platform. I actually got emotional deactivating our old way of supporting YOB. But I'm excited for what's to come as I update y'all on the resumption of regular blog/podcast content, as well as our next YOB+YOS membership call and our 7th YOB retreat this month in Pennsylvania.
